Lake Tisza (Hungarian name: Tisza-tó), also known as Kisköre Reservoir (Hungarian: Kiskörei-víztározó), is the largest artificial lake in Hungary. It is located at the southeastern edge of Heves county, next to counties Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén, Hajdú-Bihar and Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok.

As part of the ongoing Tisza River flood control project, the Tisza Dam was built in 1973. Its filling was finished in the 1990s, resulting a 127 km² lake. The lake is 27 km in length, with an average depth of 1.3 m and a maximum depth of 17 m; it contains 43 km² of small islands.

Following the reservoir's completion, Hungarians began to flock to the site for holidays, since it compared favorably with the crowded and expensive Lake Balaton, the traditional holiday site. As a result, tourist infrastructure has been developed on the reservoir—renamed Lake Tisza—and the government has designated it an official tourism destination.

The lake (or reservoir) has a new local ecology with a diversity of birds, plants, and animals.

Lake Tisza Ecocentre in Poroszló was erected to collect and display the nature and wildlife of the Tisza River valley and Lake Tisza. It was opened to the public on 27 April 2012.

Although Lake Tisza was created artifically at the beginning of 1970-ies its wild natural world reminds the visitor of an unspoilt, ancient water world.

The lake is a dammed section of the Tisza, the riverbed of which is clearly visible and where the depth of the lake reaches 10-17 m. Reef-clad bays, islands and backwaters provide habitat to numerous bird species and other animals.

If you want relax in a peaceful environment and in a place where you can get into close contact with nature go for a vacation around Lake Tisza.

The shallow water near the shores is just perfect for bathing. In the towns and villages in the are you can learn about the unique folk arts and crafts and way of life of the people of Lake Tisza.

An increasing number of privately owned guesthouses offer good-value accommodation in the area.

If you're pursue some sort of motorised water sport or want to try water skiing then you must visit the bay at Abádszalók which is the only place in Europe where use of motor boats is allowed.

It also has an excellent beach the largest around the lake and the events of Abádszalók Summer provide for other types of entertainment.

Tiszafüred is the centre of region with a nice beach and a thermal bath. Next to the beach you can rent kayaks and canoes and go for a small tour on the lake to explore its hidden beauties and where the chirp of birds, and the croak of frogs provide an unparalleled background music to your excursion.
You can also hire guides with motor boats.

The Bird Reserve at Tiszavalk is strictly protected giving home to around 200 bird species: herons, egrets, wagtails. The reserve is part of the Hortobágy National Park and it's an UNESCO's World Heritage Site.
